As a continuation of the practical weekend thermodynamics projects started with Steam Cycle Saturday, we knocked the dust off the steam locomotive. Our Accucraft Ida is a G-scale, butane fired low pressure saturated steam engine. Our trip home allowed me to pick up some steam oil. (no idea where to get it here) and after visiting about a half dozen stores, we finally found butane.
We set up the Christmas train tracks on the back patio. Lots more track space outside than in the living room.
Live steam in action!
Now we know how a single action expansion valve converts the steam’s potential energy into the locomotive’s kinetic energy. Enough thermo for one day!
